What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive fat-reduction procedure that uses a patented freezing technique to rid unwanted fat from the body — the fat that diet and exercise alone haven’t helped you lose. Your board-certified plastic surgeon can perform the CoolSculpting procedure quickly in his offices, and you can immediately return to your normal activities and begin enjoying a new, slimmer you with results that last.
How does CoolSculpting work?
The CoolSculpting procedure targets fat cells and delivers controlled amounts of cooling to those cells to freeze them, leaving adjacent cells unaffected. The frozen fat cells die, and your body will naturally eliminate them from your body. These fats cells will not return, providing you with permanent fat loss. If you gain weight back in the future, fat will typically return evenly throughout your body and will not reappear in treated areas.
What can I expect during my CoolSculpting procedure?
A CoolSculpting procedure typically lasts anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes. During your CoolSculpting procedure, Dr. Daniel Schneider will pass a special applicator over your target areas, and you will begin to feel an intense cooling sensation in those areas. The CoolSculpting applicator will then deliver controlled and targeted cooling to the areas being treated.
You will feel some gentle pulling or pinching of the skin in your treatment areas — think massage — as small, targeted areas are momentarily pulled away from your body and into the applicator. You will also likely feel some intense coldness in the treated area which usually subsides within a few minutes. Immediately after your procedure, you might experience some local tingling or aching which is normal and mild and usually disappears in a few days.
Is there any downtime?
Since the procedure is non-invasive, you can leave your doctor’s offices after your treatment and go right back to your busy lifestyle. You will have no special after-care regimen to follow. While you may experience some tenderness in the treatment areas, this is usually mild and should not prevent you from doing most of your normal activities. How many CoolSculpting treatments you need will depend on how much fat loss you desire. Results usually appear gradually over the next several weeks, and some patients report seeing results in as soon as three weeks.
Is CoolSculpting right for me?
If you have successfully lost weight through diet and exercise but still have stubborn fat that refuses to respond to your efforts, the CoolSculpting procedure can help, especially if the fat that concerns you lies in the abdomen, thigh and flank areas. Both men and women will see benefits from the procedure. However, if you suffer from a few rare pre-existing conditions (such as cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria), you may need to consider other fat-loss alternatives.
