Contrary to popular belief, winter is actually a fantastic time to visit your plastic surgeon for a procedure. In this article, we are going to explain why winter is the best time for plastic surgery.
Staying Out of the Sun
Many plastic surgery procedures require time out of the sun post-operatively. In winter, that’s less of a problem – especially in Minnesota where the cold weather keeps us indoors!
Large coats, scarves, and hats allow you to cover up right after the procedure. This allows you to effectively hide any bandages or scars that need to heal after your surgery.
Holiday breaks give you extended periods of time to recuperate and do not require you to take extra time away from work.

When it comes to facial plastic surgery, there are a number of procedures to choose from. In this article, we are going to discuss 5 facial plastic procedures that can help you get the fresh face you’re looking for!
Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure more commonly known as a “nose job” in which the patient’s nose is reconstructed and repaired. The procedure can be done for purely cosmetic reasons to alter the look of the nose, or for more functional reasons – like repairing a deviated septum.
A brow lift is also known as a “forehead lift” and is often used to fix drooping eyebrows and remove “worry lines” on the patient’s forehead.
A rhytidectomy (more commonly known as a “face lift”) is a common cosmetic procedure used to give a patient a more youthful appearance. There are numerous surgical techniques that can be used in a face lift procedure based on the needs of the individual patient.
A neck lift is a plastic surgery procedure in which the patient’s neck and/or jawline are reconstructed to reduce the signs of aging.
Blepharoplasty (aka an “eyelid lift”) is a facial plastic procedure used to correct deformities and disfigurations of the eyelid.

One of the most common worries on patients’ minds when it comes to plastic surgery is that their procedure may leave a scar. No patient wants a scar, but they are often a consequence of many surgical procedures. In this article, we are going to discuss whether various plastic surgery procedures leave scars, and what you can do to minimize them.
Minimally Invasive Procedures vs. Open Procedures
Nearly all surgical procedures require the surgeon to make incisions into the patient’s body. While these incisions are necessary, they have the unfortunate downside of leaving scars. That being said, there are several ways to hide or minimize scarring from plastic surgery procedures.
Many plastic surgery procedures can be performed in one of two ways – open or minimally invasive. Each type has its own benefits. Open procedures typically allow the surgeon to have more precision during the procedure, but minimally invasive surgery offers less risk, less scarring, and a faster recovery.
The type of procedure that’s right for you will depend on your situation. Every patient is different and it’s important to approach each patient with that in mind and tailor a treatment strategy to fit his or her individual needs. Your plastic surgeon will be able to make recommendations for you based on your situation and medical history.

A rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure to alter the shape and structure of the nose. There are two basic methods for performing this procedure – the open method and the closed method. In this article, we are going to discuss the differences between an open rhinoplasty and a closed rhinoplasty and how to decide which is best for you.
In an open rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes incisions to fold back the skin and access the underlying structures of the nose. The biggest benefit of an open rhinoplasty is that the surgeon has full access to the underlying bone and cartilage, which can improve the overall results of the procedure.
A closed rhinoplasty is less invasive than the open procedure – which leads to less downtime and risk. The biggest benefit of a closed rhinoplasty is that the initial incision is made inside the nostril, and is thus not visible after the procedure. That being said, there are downsides to the procedure – namely, that the surgeon only has limited visibility during the procedure due to the closed nature of the surgery.
Choosing the Right Option
The best option for you will depend heavily on your specific circumstances and your cosmetic goals. While closed rhinoplasty offers slightly less risk, the open procedure allows the surgeon to be more accurate. Your plastic surgeon can walk you through the pros and cons of each procedure and make a recommendation based on your unique circumstances.

The first questions many patients ask when considering a surgical procedure is this: “is the procedure safe?” That’s an important question, especially when it comes to plastic surgery procedures. In this article, we are going to discuss whether or not certain plastic surgery procedures are safe.
Surgical Procedure Safety
All surgical procedures carry a certain amount of risk. Since surgeons and teams are all human, there is always a risk of something going wrong. With the advancements in surgical technology, surgical procedures are certainly a lot safer than they were even 10-20 years ago, but there will always be at least some risk associated.
That being said, most common plastic surgery procedures are considered safe – they certainly don’t carry as much risk as open-heart surgery.
Taking the Appropriate Precautions
Though most plastic surgery procedures are generally considered safe, there are certain precautions you should take before going under the knife. Here are a few tips to help guide you:
- Make sure you go to a reputable clinic / surgeon. Make sure your surgeon is properly credentialed. If they are board-certified, that’s even better!
- Do your due diligence. Once you’ve found a clinic or surgeon, do some research. Check out their credentials, patient reviews, and the procedures they perform.

Plastic surgeons perform a variety of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, but many patients are confused about the difference between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. The two share some similarities, but it’s important to understand how they differ and when each can be beneficial. In this article, we are going to discuss the difference between cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery.
Cosmetic surgery is used to rework normal, undamaged structures of the body. Generally, the goal of a cosmetic surgical procedure is to improve appearance and boost the patient’s self-esteem.
Here are a few examples of common cosmetic surgery procedures:
Reconstructive surgery, on the other hand, is performed to improve function and appearance of a bodily structure that has been damaged.
Here are some of the situations that may warrant reconstructive surgery:
- Congenital defects
- Acute trauma
- Developmental abnormalities
- Infections or diseases
What’s Right for You?
Choosing the right procedure for your situation can be difficult. Your best bet is to set up a consultation with a plastic surgeon that you trust. During that consultation, your surgeon can walk you through your available options and make treatment recommendations that make the most sense for your unique situation.

There are many misconceptions about plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures. We’d like to clear up some of these myths. In this article, we are going to debunk several of the most common myths surrounding plastic surgery.
Myth – You can Expect Your Results to Last Forever
Having a plastic surgery procedure done does not mean that your body stops aging. Your body will continue to age long past your date of surgery. A facelift may be able to reset your aging clock by several years, but the clock keeps on ticking. Aging is inevitable, and while plastic surgery procedures can help stall the march of time, the results do not last forever.
Myth – Every Procedure is Painless for Every Person
Everyone experiences pain differently. One patient may experience no pain at all with a certain procedure, while another person may experience a great deal of pain with the same exact surgery. There are general guidelines for specific procedures that can give some insight into how painful a procedure is, but pain is so subjective that you will need to approach your procedure from your own perspective.
Myth – Each Patient is a Good Candidate for Every Procedure
While some clinics will tell you that every procedure is good for every patient, the truth is that some patients are simply not good candidates for certain procedures. You should always work with your plastic surgeon to determine the best procedure or procedures for your situation.

If you are unsatisfied with your appearance, there are many options at your disposal (both surgical and non-invasive options) to address any present issues. But with so many options, a lot of patients have a difficult time figuring out what’s best for them. In this article, we are going to discuss the thread lift procedure and who is a good candidate for this particular cosmetic treatment.
What is a Thread Lift?
A thread lift is a cosmetic procedure in which the patient’s skin is “lifted” with the use of temporary sutures. Instead of removing portions of skin, the plastic surgeon stitches portions of it up – essentially suspending it and leading to a tighter look.
Who Can Benefit from a Thread Lift?
With any cosmetic procedure, it’s important to determine whether or not you are a good candidate before proceeding with treatment. Thread lifts can be beneficial for many patients, including those with any of the following:
- Skin laxity
- Drooping chin
Ultimately, a plastic surgeon is needed to determine whether or not a thread lift is a good option for you. During your initial surgical consultation, your plastic surgeon will evaluate your particular situation, explain your options to you, and work with you to develop a treatment strategy that fits your individual needs.
Best Candidate for Thread Lift
Here are some criteria that can help you determine if you are a good candidate for a thread lift:
- Age demographic: 30-65
- Preferable to have no prior plastic surgery of the area being treated
- Ok to have previous injections with neurotoxins or dermal fillers, as long as performed greater than two weeks prior
- Candidates should have some or all of the following to be considered as a patient/model:
- Mild to Moderate flat & ptotic cheek tissue (cheeks have fallen creating nasolabial folds)
- Mild to moderate jowling / descent of the lower third of the face
- Mild to moderate brow ptosis (droopy eyebrows)
- Mild neck cutaneous bands – patients with platysmal bands or excess skin are not good candidates for the procedure
- Crepey skin of the area of the face or body being treated
- Mild to moderate ptosis of the body area being treated (breasts, buttocks)
- Mild folding of skin above knees, elbows
- Models should be calm in nature, willing to get injected in front of a group and able to tolerate mild to moderate pain. Preferably, individuals have previously had aesthetic injectables.
- Currently not taking any blood thinning medication, Omega 3’s, Vitamin E, Ginko, Ginseng, Garlic, anti-inflammatories, steroids, or neuromuscular blockers
- Not allergic to lidocaine or epinephrine
- No active infections including colds, sinus infections, upper respiratory infections, cold sores, or rashes
