Jessica’s Journey with Clean Start Weight Loss, Part 2

Note: this is part 2 of an ongoing guest blog series by Jessica Joyce, documenting her preparations on the road to the 2019 Mrs. MN America Pageant. Read Part 1 here.

Hi! I am 2 weeks into my Mrs. Minnesota America prep and am loving the journey so far! This process is pushing me out of my comfort zone and inspiring me to try new things!

First 2 Weeks with Clean Start Weight Loss

My Clean Start carb cycling diet is off to a great start!  I stick rigidly to the diet plan and my body adjusts to fewer carbs and reduced calories. The first week is the most challenging as my body adapts. No carb days are definitely the hardest. While I do not go off the diet, there are moments I feel like giving into my cravings. So, what helps the most with cravings and moments of weakness…

Flip The Switch

The switch is flipped in my mind and I know I am 100% committed to my goal! I am ALL IN! This is the most important determinant of success! I have a clear vision of my end goal and a strong belief that it WILL happen. I find it helpful to put inspiring quotes in places I will see every day and I try to surround myself with positive people that believe in me.

Know your purpose! My Platform as Mrs. Woodbury is to inspire people to live a healthy life, to eat clean foods and to get plenty of exercise! Seventy percent of people are overweight or obese, and I want to help change that. This is what attracts me to the Clean Start Weight Loss Program. I want to eliminate all sugars, not only for aesthetic purposes, but also to live a healthier life. I want to teach my son how to eat healthily and respect his body with proper nutrition and exercise. This purpose drives me!!

Journal what you eat. I keep a very detailed food journal which helps discover where I need to make changes if I am not seeing results. Here is the journal I use and a photo of a no carb day, high carb day, and a low carb day during weeks one and two. I also track water intake. My calorie range has been between 1,250-1,800- depending on the day.

Exercise is key to getting the results I need!  The past two weeks I make sure to not miss any workouts. I do cardio 5-6 day’s/week for 30-60 minutes per session and lift weights 5 days/week. I split my weight lifting days into 3 groups:

  • Lower Body (Quads, Hamstrings, Glutes)
  • Back & Biceps
  • Shoulders, Chest & Triceps
  • Abs are incorporated every workout. When lifting, the abdominals should always be activated!

When I feel depleted it can be hard to find the motivation to make it through a workout. I listen to music that pumps me up and keeps me going.  I never felt more depleted than when I was giving birth to Ethan, if Eye of the Tiger can get me through that, it can certainly get me through to the end of a workout! That is one of my go-to songs.

My 2 Week Results with Clean Start

It is so exciting seeing results and knowing my hard work is paying off! My starting body fat percentage was 18.7% and it is now at 15.4%. That is a 3.3% body fat loss in 2 weeks!! I encourage everyone to eat clean this week and to get an extra work out! And if you need that extra push, contact Riverview Facial Plastic Surgery! Dr. Schneider offers an array of procedures and services including, a MIC B injection that boosts energy and burns fat to assist with weight loss and can be used weekly!

I am so happy I decided to take this journey! I learn something each and every day to help me become a better version of myself! Bring on the next two weeks…

After Losing Weight, When Is the Best Time for Body Contouring?

Losing weight is a huge accomplishment that anyone can be proud of. We’ve talked before about how body contouring like CoolSculpting can help you lose fat in unwanted areas that you can’t get rid of with exercise alone. But once you’ve lost weight, when is the right time to get body contouring? In this article, we are going to talk about when you should consider body contouring when after you’ve lost a lot of weight. Here are some of the important factors to consider before moving forward with body contouring.

Your Overall Health

First of all, it’s important to make sure you are in good overall health before proceeding with body contouring. If you are just starting a new diet plan, or you’ve just had weight loss surgery, you should wait and allow you body to adjust to these new changes before doing body contouring.

Your Ability to Maintain Stable Weight

Another important factor is your ability to maintain a stable weight. You want to make sure you are able to sustain your weight before getting body contouring. If you immediately start putting on weight again after the procedure, the effects of body contouring will be significantly diminished.

Your Provider

Finally, it’s essential that make sure your healthcare provider is board-certified. This ensures that you are in capable hands.

Jessica’s Journey with Clean Start Weight Loss, Part 1

Note: this is part 1 of an ongoing guest blog series by Jessica Joyce, documenting her preparations on the road to the 2019 Mrs. MN America Pageant.

Hi! I’m Jessica! A 36-year-old wife and mother to a very on the go 3-year-old boy. I’m a fitness enthusiast and nutrition nut who enjoys traveling to all places tropical and loves a challenge! I have competed in figure competitions in the past and am currently preparing to compete in the Mrs. MN America Pageant in June 2019! As I prepare for my pageant I will be following a carb cycling diet and eliminating all sugars to get my body healthy and pageant ready! I will be documenting my journey here!

Clean Start Weight Loss

I met Dr. Schneider at his private practice, Riverview Facial Plastic Surgery & Total Body Aesthetics, and was impressed with the services he and his staff offer. I have seen Dr. Schneider for Botox and am now excited to incorporate his Clean Start Weight Loss Program into my diet! Dr. Schneider has a passion for helping people reach their weight loss goals through a customized weight loss treatment plan.

What is Carb Cycling?

Carb cycling is an eating plan that manipulates caloric intake by alternating high-carb, low-carb, and no carb days. There are many variations to this approach. You can adjust your carb intake to fit your specific needs depending on what your goals are. My goal is to reduce body fat. I am currently at 18.7%. I will start with a carb cycle of:

  • High carb
  • Low carb
  • No carb
  • Repeat

My biggest workout days (HIIT and lower body weight training) will be on high carb days and fasted steady state cardio will be on my no carb days. This way my body is getting the nutrition it needs, when it needs it most!

What Foods & Drinks Can You Consume on this Diet?

All clean, one ingredient foods. No sugar and no dairy. Here is a list of foods and beverages that are in my typical diet and I stick to mostly organic:

Chicken breast, extra lean turkey burger, eggs, egg whites, tilapia, asparagus, spinach, bell peppers, onions, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, grapefruit, rolled oats, brown rice, puffed rice, puffed kamut, sweet potato, peanut butter (no sugar added), avocado, almonds, walnuts, olive oil, egg white protein powder.

Beverages: Coffee (I love iced coffee and drink lots of it), unsweetened tea, unsweetened almond milk and of course, lots and lots of water.  For a sweetener, I use stevia.

I’m off to my first week of carb cycling. The first 2 weeks are usually the hardest as my body adapts to fewer carbs! Here I go……!!

If you would like to know how you can tailor a diet specifically to your body and achieve the weight loss you want while reducing appetite cravings contact Dr. Schneider at Riverview Facial Plastic Surgery and Total Body Aesthetics!

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty (or eyelid rejuvenation) is a common facial plastic procedure in which the patient’s eyelids are restored to a more youthful appearance. This article is all about blepharoplasty – what it is, what it can treat, and who is a good candidate for the procedure.

What Blepharoplasty can Treat

Blepharoplasty can be helpful in treating any and all of the following conditions:

  • Sagging or loose skin around the eyes.
  • Bags under the eyes.
  • Puffy eyes (due to fatty deposits).
  • Drooping lower eyelids.
  • Excess skin around the eyes.

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty procedure can help you look and feel younger. Unfortunately, not every patient will qualify as a good candidate for the procedure. You may be a good candidate for blepharoplasty if you meet the following criteria:

  • Generally healthy, with no conditions that may impair healing.
  • No serious eye conditions.

Of course, the best way to determine whether or not blepharoplasty is right for you is to consult with a facial plastic surgeon who can examine your situation and recommend treatment options tailored specifically to you. Even if your surgeon determines that you are not a good candidate for blepharoplasty, there are other non-surgical treatments that may be a better fit.

Brow Lift vs. Eyelid Lift – Differences & Similarities

Two of the most common facial plastic procedures are the brow lift and the eyelid lift. While these procedures can often accomplish similar goals, there are some marked differences that patients should be aware of when making a decision about their surgery. In this article, we are going about the similarities and differences between the brow lift and eyelid lift procedures and when to choose each.

Brow Lift Surgery

Brow lift surgery is a facial plastic procedure in which the skin above the eyelid (the brow) is raised to reshape the arch of the brow. This procedure is often helpful for patients who are experiencing sagging skin in the area, or wrinkles.

Eyelid Lift Surgery

Eyelid lift surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) is a facial plastic procedure in which excess skin on the patient’s eyelid is peeled back in order to open the eyes and give a more youthful appearance.

Choosing A Procedure

Choosing which procedure is best for you requires the help of a skilled facial plastic surgeon who can examine your condition and walk you through your best options. You may also benefit from having both an eyelid lift and an eyebrow lift procedure at the same time.

3 Types of Chin Implants

Chin implant surgery is a relatively common facial plastic procedure that is often combined with a rhinoplasty procedure to achieve the patient’s desired look. The ultimate goal of a chin augmentation is to bring greater balance to the face by elongate the jawline and balance the proportions of the patient’s face. But when it comes to chin implants, there are several options to choose from – each with their own benefits. In this article, we are going to talk about the most common types of chin implants used in facial plastic surgery.

Silicone Chin Implants

Silicone implants are the most common type used in chin augmentation surgery. These implants offer great flexibility and can be tailored to each patient’s needs. Silicone implants also offer the most natural looking results compared to other implants, so long as they are implanted properly.

Gore-Tex Chin Implants

Gore-Tex chin implants, made from polytetrafluoroethylene, are stabilized into the bone using titanium screws. As a result, these implants are more permanent and sturdier than silicone implants. The material is porous, so the surrounding tissue and jawbone will grow into the implant over time.

Medpor Chin Implants

Medpor chin implants are made from polyethylene and are similar to the Gore-Tex implants. The biggest difference is that Medpor implants are not quite as flexible as Gore-Tex implants.

Cosmetic Treatments to Prepare for Wedding Season

Wedding season is still several months away, but if you’re considering a cosmetic procedure in preparation for your wedding, it’s important to start making plans and appointments now. In this article, we are going to talk about the timing of cosmetic treatments as you prepare for wedding season.

Three Months Out – Body Contouring

Start your body contouring (CoolSculpting) appointments at least three months before the wedding day. Body contouring can take several appointments over the course of weeks or months to produce the best possible results, so it’s good to get on top of this one early.

One Month Out – Botox

Timing is important when it comes to Botox injections. Get them too early and the effects will begin to wear off. Get them too late and your face may still be recovering. Roughly a month before the wedding day is a good rule of thumb for Botox injections.

Two Weeks Out – Juvederm

Roughly two weeks prior to the wedding day, make your appointment to plump your lips with Juvederm. These injections provide immediate results but aren’t long-lasting so it’s important to not get them too early before the wedding day.

3 Tips for Boosting the Longevity of Your Facelift Results

What you do (or don’t do) after a facelift procedure can have a big impact on the lasting results of the procedure. This is something a lot of patients don’t think about. In this article, we are going to offer up a few tips for protecting the results of your facelift in the months and years following your procedure.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

Most people are aware of the dangers of skin cancer, but what many don’t realize is that overexposure to the sun’s UV rays can accelerate the signs of aging (like wrinkles, sagging, and fine lines). Make sure to avoid deliberate tanning and wear sunscreen when you’re out in the sun to prevent these effects.

Choose a Board-Certified Surgeon

The first, and perhaps most important, decision you can make to improve the longevity of your facelift if to choose a board-certified facial plastic surgeon. Having a skilled and experienced facelift surgeon will ensure that your facelift results last for a long time.

Watch What You Eat

Eating a balanced diet has a huge positive impact on the look and feel of your skin. Eliminating sugar and junk food, and focusing on vegetables, whole grains, and fruits can benefit your face as well as your overall health.

Revision Rhinoplasty – Are You a Good Candidate?

Many patients have heard of the rhinoplasty procedure – but what is a revision rhinoplasty? In this article, we are going to discuss the revision rhinoplasty procedure and when it can be a good option for patients.

What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

A revision rhinoplasty is a rhinoplasty procedure performed on a patient who has previously had one or more rhinoplasty procedures. So why would a patient want to have more than one rhinoplasty procedure?

The most common reason is that they are not happy with the results of their previous rhinoplasty. The nose is a complex structure, and rhinoplasty is perhaps the most difficult aesthetic procedure that facial plastic surgeons perform.

Tips for Avoiding a Revision Rhinoplasty

No patient wants to have to go under the knife more than they have to for any procedure – especially rhinoplasty. Here are some tips for getting things done right the first time and avoiding a revision rhinoplasty procedure:

  • Communicate effectively with your surgeon. Prior to your procedure, tell your surgeon what your goals are for the procedure. Are you looking to reshape the look of your nose? Are you hoping to fix a functional issue? Open communication with your surgeon is a must.
  • Follow your surgeon’s pre and post-op instructions. Failure to follow these instructions can put the success of the procedure in jeopardy.

Realistic Expectations from Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Managing expectations is extremely important with any surgical procedure – especially facial plastic surgeries. In this article, we are going to discuss what you can realistically expect from your rhinoplasty procedure.

Managing Expectations

Going into any surgical procedure, it’s important for both patient and surgeon to manage expectations. A rhinoplasty is no different. Be sure to discuss your expectations with your surgeon so you are both on the same page. A rhinoplasty can offer a lot of great benefits, but like any surgical procedure, it has its limits. It’s important to understand what a rhinoplasty can and can’t do.

Here are a few things that can be accomplished with a typical rhinoplasty:

  • Narrowing the base of the nose.
  • Lowering a nasal hump.
  • Narrowing the nostrils.
  • Modifying the tip.
  • Shortening a long nose.

Communicate with Your Surgeon

The most important thing you can do to manage expectations before your procedure is to communicate openly with your plastic surgeon. Clearly explain what your goals are with this procedure and ask your surgeon if these goals can be realistically accomplished. Your surgeon will walk you through all the benefits and risks of your procedure as well. Should you have any questions along the way, don’t hesitate to bring them up to your doctor before your procedure.
